GECW1000, 2000, 3000 & 4000 Non-formal Learning I, II, III & IV carry no credit units, but are required in both terms for all Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 students except those on outbound exchange, full-time internship, suspension of studies for a valid reason for one term/ year.

Course Pre-assignment

The College will preassign the relevant course to students during their normative study period according to the guidelines below.

Notes:

• Attendance at Communal Dining (CD) and High Table Dinner (HTD) will continue NOT to be counted for the courses. However, meal plan participants are required to swipe their SID cards at the registration counter for identity verification. CD participation will continue to serve as an important reference for future allocation of College scholarships, awards and spare hotel places under special application.
• Only activity attendance will count towards course grade (PP/ FF) for the courses.
• The following activity categories are eligible to be counted:
  • Students’ participation in College-organized events;
  • Students’ participation in non-College-organized events submitted through an online form along with event details, attendance proof and a photo of themselves taken at the venue on the event day;
  • Students’ participation in non-College-organized events with a significant other via the ‘Self and the Significant Others’ Scheme, submitted through online form along with event details, attendance proof and a photo of themselves and the significant other(s) taken at the venue on the event day; and
  • For regular meal plan participants, their participation in the new initiative ‘Dinner Dialogue’ (maximum three times per term) during CD.
• The College only handles special applications for CD exemption for the whole term/ whole year in 2026–27, bundled with request for exemption from hostel accommodation. These applications will only be considered on exceptional grounds (e.g. clinical placement for medical students, family duties/ emergencies, serious health reason).
• Since hostel accommodation and CD are bundled, the College will NOT arrange for a refund of the prepaid hostel fee and meal charge under normal circumstances.
