Prof Sun Jin
Prof. SUN Jin (孫晋) obtained his bachelor’s degree at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) with the generous support from Mr. Y. S. Hui Memorial Scholarships (許讓成先生紀念獎學金) and Sir Lee Quo-wei Scholarships (利國偉爵士獎學金). He received the master’s degree from Harvard Kennedy School with scholarships from Harvard Belfer Center, and the Ph.D. degree from the Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies with the financial support of the European Research Council (ERC). During his postgraduate years at Harvard, he benefited from the student house at GSAS (Graduate School of Arts and Sciences) which had a residential and communal dining arrangement in Lehman Hall at Massachusetts Avenue.
His research received funding from Stanton Foundation in the US, the ERC in the European Union, and the Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS). His articles with collaborators have been published by the American Journal of Sociology, Global Governance, Journal of Public Administration, and other peer-reviewed journals. He was honored with the International Geneva Award in 2020. He also contributed chapters to books at Edwards Elgar Publishing and Cambridge University Press. His research focuses on transnational and global sociology, comparative-historical sociology, and the sociology of law and global governance with regard to global sanctions, financial capitalism, climate change, carbon governance, Chinese carbon trading, global environmental law, global digital rules, global health law, multinational financial institutions, and neoliberal globalization, using a mix of methods including the fieldwork, interview, ethnography, participant observation, and data analysis. He passed the Chinese bar in Beijing and Directed Studies in Public International Law at the Hague Academy of International Law. He is an Op-Ed contributor to China Newsweek (中國新聞周刊).
