Amos P. K. Tai (戴沛權) is an Associate Professor in the Earth System Science Programme of the Faculty of Science, and a teaching affiliate of the CW Chu College. His research and teaching interests focus on climate physics, atmospheric chemistry, climate-ecosystem interactions, and the societal impacts of global environmental change. He obtained his B.Sc. degree from MIT and his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering from Harvard. Since joining CUHK, Amos has taken an extensive role in developing the major curriculum, new courses, student opportunities and counseling for a brand-new undergraduate program. For his teaching work he received the Faculty of Science Exemplary Teaching Award and the Vice-Chancellor Exemplary Teaching Award in 2015.
Amos is recognized to be an effective communicator with a compelling approach to teaching the subjects, while being attentive, caring and devoted to the students. Thinking from the students’ perspectives has been his major guiding principle in both curriculum design and lecture delivery. He also delights in communicating and educating science to non-scientists on topics such as environmental conservation, climate change and the integration of faith and science. Born and raised in subtropical Hong Kong, Amos is an insect enthusiast and hopes to become an amateur entomologist.
