Prof AU Kwok Keung Thomas

Thomas AU (區國強) is former Associate Master (2017–July 2021) and Dean of Students (August 2016–July 2021) of CW Chu College, and currently a Senior College Tutor and Fellow of the College. He obtained his BSc from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and then a PhD from the University of California, San Diego. During his undergraduate years, he had the opportunity of enjoying the fraternity of student life in the hostel of New Asia College.

Au was a teacher at the Department of Mathematics of CUHK from 1990 to July 2021. He actively worked on departmental curriculum matters and organizing undergraduate exchanges, research, internships and other student academic activities.  He has twice received the Exemplary Teaching Award of the Science Faculty.  Until the establishment of CW Chu College, he was affiliated with Shaw College.

Au has also been engaged in serving the education sector of Hong Kong and China. He has served in various committees of the Education Department, the Quality Education Fund, and The Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence.  He has contributed particularly to gifted mathematics education by serving as Executive Chair of Hang Lung Mathematics Awards and as a member of National Committee of New World Mathematics Awards.
