Professor Michelle Miao is Associate Dean and Associate Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Faculty of Law. She holds a DPhil in Law from the University of Oxford, along with two LLM degrees from New York University and Renmin University of China respectively. Her prestigious research appointments include Global Fellow at New York University (2014-2015), Howard League Fellow at the University of Oxford (2013-2014), Postdoctoral Fellow of the British Academy (2015-2016), the National University of Singapore’s ASLI Fellow (2019), Harvard-Yenching Scholar (2019-2020), and most recently Fellow at Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (2024-2025).

 

Professor Miao is the recipient of the American Society of Comparative Law’s Hessel Yntema Prize, awarded for the most outstanding scholarly achievement by a comparatist under 40. Her other honors include CUHK Law’s Award for Impact in Legal Scholarship (2021), CUHK Young Researcher Award (2019), and CUHK Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards (2019, 2023). Her research focuses on artificial intelligence & law, criminal justice, and comparative law, with publications in leading journals including the American Journal of Comparative LawInternational & Comparative Law Quarterly, Columbia Journal of Transnational Law, Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, and British Journal of Criminology. Her work has been presented at elite forums (Stanford IJFF, Chicago-Tsinghua Forum) and featured in major media (BBC, CNN, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, The Guardian), demonstrating both academic rigor and real-world relevance.
