Extended Orientation
The Extended Orientation is an integral part of the overall orientation for new students, and part of the non-credit bearing component under the College General Education Programme. All CWC students (except Senior Year entrants) are required to attend in Term 1 of Year 1.
Objectives
The Extended Orientation aims to introduce and reinforce the various resources and support services available to students, to facilitate informed decision-making and the development of appropriate educational plans throughout the university years. The Extended Orientation provides a framework for a fruitful, meaningful, and enjoyable College life, emphasising communication of expectations and norms, as well as guidance and support for a smooth transition into university life.
Implementation
The Extended Orientation is organised through a series of designed College talks, workshops and activities in the first few Fridays of Term 1. Students must attend these sessions to receive a PP grade in GECW1000 Non-formal Learning I. For details, see “Attendance Requirement”. Students are advised to pay attention to updates sent via email (@link email).
Content
A total of four sessions of the Extended Orientation will be arranged. Although details may vary from year to year, typically the following topics will be covered:
- Enriching My Learning Experience at College
- Creating a Congenial Learning Environment: Mental Wellness, and Gender Equality and Mutual Respect
- Honour Code Pledging Ceremony
- Resolving the Dilemmas of Ethical Living
- Sharing by student bodies
Schedule
Sessions will typically be held during 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on several Friday mornings, and also using one week of GECW1010. Please watch out for announcements by email, on Event Calendar, and on Blackboard.
